Miami football finalizes 2022 schedule with Bethune-Cookman and Middle Tennessee State
Lost in the news shuffle this week with the hiring of head coach Mario Cristobal on Tuesday and the announcement of Dan Radakovich as the new athletic director on Thursday, the Miami football program finalized its 2022 schedule. Miami will host Bethune-Cookman and Middle Tennessee State in September.
The Hurricanes will begin the Cristobal era on September 3 against the Wildcats at Hard Rock Stadium and seek their first points in three games against the Blue Raiders on September 24 according to FBSchedules.Com via national college football writer Brett McMurphy. Miami has won all five games against Bethune-Cookman.
The Hurricanes have won the five games against the Wildcats, all between 2011 and 2019, by a cumulative score of 232-37. Miami has played Middle Tennessee State twice. The Blue Raiders won 25-0 in 1931 and 7-0 in 1932. Ninety years later, the Middle Tennessee State and Miami football teams will renew their “rivalry.”
Bethune-Cookman is 2-9 in 2021. The Wildcats lost 38-28 to Texas El-Paso and 63-13 to Central Florida in their only two games against FBS teams in 2021. Bethune-Cookman recorded their only wins against Alcorn State and Grambling in back-to-back weeks in November. Middle Tennessee State is 6-6 in 2021.
The Blue Raiders will play Toledo in the Bahamas Bowl on December 17. In their only game against a Power Five opponent in 2021, Middle Tennessee State lost 35-14 at Virginia Tech in September. Miami defeated Virginia Tech 38-26 at Hard Rock Stadium last month. MTSU finished 4-4 and fourth in Conference USA in 2021.
Miami last played a Conference USA opponent when they defeated UAB 31-14 in the 2020 season opener. The Hurricanes ran for 337 yards and had 495 total against a good Blazers defense. Miami will also host Southern Miss on September 10 and play at Texas A&M on September 17 in their other 2022 non-conference games.
