New head coach Mario Cristobal has offered five of his assistants from Oregon jobs with the Miami football program. Running backs coach Jim Mastro linebackers coach, Ken Wilson, wide receivers coach Bryan McClendon, offensive line coach Alex Mirabal and strength conditioning coordinator Aaron Feld could all join the Miami staff.

Justin Hopkins of Scoop Duck on 3 reported the potential coaching hires by Mario Cristobal at Miami. Only Mirabal has accepted a position with the Hurricanes per Hopkins. Mirabal has been out recruiting with Cristobal in the three days since Cristobal was introduced as head coach on Tuesday.

Upgrading the Miami offensive line will be a priority for Cristobal who played tackle for Miami from 1988 through 1992. McClendon and Feld will reportedly follow Cristobal to Miami. The potential is that McClendon could be the Miami offensive coordinator under Cristobal and Wilson could run the Hurricanes defense.

Tim DeRuyter who was the Oregon defensive coordinator in 2021 accepted the same position with Texas Tech this week. Cristobal and Miami will be searching for a new defensive coordinator in 2022. Former Miami head coach Manny Diaz had the dual role as the Hurricanes defensive coordinator in 2021.

Cristobal is being given a reported unprecedented $8.1 million for coaching staff salaries in 2022. Mastro earned $481,500 in 2021, McClendon $515,000, Mirabal $600,000 and Wilson  $465,000. The information obtained from Oregon Live did not list the salary for Feld in 2021.

As a private school, Miami does not have to release financial information or salaries. An experienced defensive coordinator, DeRuyter made $825,000 with the Ducks in 2021. Miami will seek competitive salaries for their entire staff in 2022. Cristobal is reportedly considering some of the current Miami assistants.
