Miami Hurricanes athletic director and coaching change timelines
The media was told not to ask questions about the
of Cristobal being hired before his introductory press conference. With Cristobal hired, the next order of business for University of Miami President Julio Frenk and his close advisors Rudy Fernandez and Joe Echevarria was a new athletic director.
Next Miami Hurricanes athletic director
Many pundits doubted that Miami could pull off the double of Cristobal and Clemson athletic director Dan Radakovich. The rumors about Radakovich began concurrently with speculation about Cristobal. Two days after Cristobal’s introductory press conference Miami announced Radakovich as the next athletic director.
The hiring of Cristobal and Radakovich, their contracts, buyouts and the money the Hurricanes are committing in salary showed a more dedicated approach from Frenk and the Miami administration towards football and athletics in general than they have for many would say the last 15 years. Next Cristobal has to hire a coaching staff.
Cristobal lost his Oregon offensive coordinator Joe Moorhead to Akron as head coach last week. Oregon co-defensive coordinator Ken Wilson was hired as the head coach at Nevada. Preceding Wilson was Texas Tech hiring the other co-defensive coordinator Tim De-Ruyter for the same position.
Cristobal will be busy over the next few weeks. Miami Interim head Jess Simpson will oversee preparation for the Sun Bowl against Washington State on December 31. Cristobal will be in charge of finalizing the Miami recruiting class and hiring the new staff. Early National Signing Day is Wednesday.
