Four-star defensive end Nyjalik Kelly is gaining momentum with projections he will sign with the Miami football program. Current Hurricanes commit, three-star wide receiver Landon Ibieta is projected to flip to LSU. Ibieta has not been contacted by Miami since Mario Cristobal was hired last week.
Kelly listed a top five of Auburn, Florida, Florida State, Georgia and Miami on Instagram on Saturday night. Kelly has four 247 Sports Crystal Balls and 100 percent from Rivals.Com projecting him to sign with Miami. Kelly would be a huge addition to the 2022 Miami class.
Kelly would be the first defensive lineman committed to Miami for 2022. The Hurricanes currently only have an eight-man recruiting class. Cristobal and his staff will have only eight days in between his introductory press conference and Early National Signing Day. Miami currently has the 58th ranked class.
Ibieta has been committed to Miami since June. Three crystal balls this weekend, including one from 247 Sports Director of Football Recruiting Steve Wiltfong have flipped their projections for Ibieta from the Miami football program to LSU. Ibieta who is from Mandeville, Louisiana recently picked up a scholarship offer from LSU.
Miami currently has four-star Isaiah Horton as another WR committed for 2022. The Hurricanes have a lot of young depth returning at WR. Ibieta is currently the second-lowest-rated 2022 Miami commit. Three-star offensive tackle Falentha Carswell is the lowest rated of the current Miami commits.
Carswell is a project at 6’7, 275 pounds who played only one season of high school football. Mississippi head coach Lane Kiffin visited with Carswell on Tuesday. Carswell is the only OL committed to the thin 2022 Miami recruiting class. Cristobal has worked hard in recruiting during his first week as the Miami head coach.
Miami had a productive last weekend of official visits before Early National Signing Day on Wednesday. Ibieta should not be a huge de-commit for Miami. Five-star St. Louis WR Kevin Coleman was one of the visitors this weekend. Cristobal brought in a handful of highly ranked recruits this weekend.
Miami could close strong enough in its 2022 recruiting class to make a significant move. The Hurricanes will not be finished on Wednesday. Expect Cristobal and his yet-to-be-named staff to be aggressive in the transfer portal and the 2022 high school seniors who decided to wait until traditional National Signing Day on February 2.
