Signing five-star Monsignor Pace defensive lineman Shemar Stewart is a priority for Mario Cristobal with over a month left until National Signing Day. Miami was trending for Stewart during the summer. With a 2-4 start to the 2021 season, momentum for signing Stewart shifted to Texas A&M from the Miami football program.

Stewart is currently in Orlando preparing to play in the Under Armour All-America Game. All five crystal balls from 247 Sports project Stewart to sign with Texas A&M. Rivals.Com future cast projects Stewart at 56 percent to sign with the Aggies. Stewart is the second-highest-ranking unsigned recruit in the Class of 2022.

Five-star linebacker Harold Perkins is the highest remaining player on the board. Perkins is also projected to sign with Texas A&M. Stewart is the ninth-ranked player, third DL and the top-rated player in Florida in the Class of 2022. The 2022 Miami class would receive a huge boost if they can sign Stewart.

Chris Singletary of 247 Sports has been evaluating practice at the Under Armour Game this week. Stewart is thriving amongst a pair of rosters of the best players in the Class of 2022. The performances by Stewart during practice this week seem to indicate he has an elite combination of power and speed.

"Shemar Stewart, Opa Locka (FL) Monsignor Pace, one of the top unsigned players in the country, came out of the blocks today ready to put his stamp on practice. In the individual periods Stewart displayed an excellent get off with burst and bend…He was violent with his hands on the bags and played with a low pad level.Anytime he took his foot off the pedal, his defensive line coach got after him and Stewart immediately ramped it back up. Once they got to 1-on-1s and team periods the pass rush ability going from speed to power along with showing a club or rip move was what kept the offensive linemen on their heels.Stewart showed full versatility lining up at both end positions as well as three-technique on the interior. The nation’s No. 9 player in the 247Sports Composite rankings left no doubt with his play today. Texas A&M is the 247Sports Crystal Ball favorite with Miami and Georgia also in hot pursuit."

Cristobal seeks defensive linemen that provide the versatility that Stewart would give Miami. Miami signed four-star DE Nyjalik Kelly and added USC DL Jacob Lichtenstein since Cristobal was hired last month. The Miami football program will learn on January 8 if Las Vegas four-star DL Cyrus Moss will sign with them.

Miami is losing a lot of depth of the 2021 DL. Stewart would have a chance to make an immediate impact with Miami. Playing Stewart next to 2021 five-star defensive tackle would provide the Miami football program with an elite pair on the defensive line. Cristobal wants to build Miami from the inside out.
