Former Clemson wide receiver Frank Ladson tweeted on Saturday that he is coming home. Ladson was a prep star at South Dade before he signed with the Tigers in 2019. The decision to return home makes Ladson the most talented WR on the Miami Hurricanes roster according to 247 Sports.
Ladson has struggled with injuries throughout his career at Clemson. In three seasons with the Tigers, Ladson had 31 receptions for 428 yards and six touchdowns. At 6’3, 205 pounds, Ladson adds more size to the Miami Hurricanes WRs corps. Ladson is bigger than any of the other WRs on the Miami roster.
Romello Brinson at 6’2, 185 pounds and Michael Redding III at 6’2, 202 pounds are the biggest scholarship WRs on the Miami roster. Ladson graded out .9800 when he signed with Clemson. Brinson was previously the highest-ranked WR on the Miami roster at .9368. Ladson is the 114th ranked transfer in 2022.
Ladson also provides Miami with a WR who has played in big games. In 2020 Ladson had one reception for nine yards in the Clemson College Football Playoff semifinal loss to Ohio State. The 2020 season was the best year for Ladson at Clemson. Ladson had 18 receptions for 281 yards and three TDs in 2020.
Transfer WRs have had success with Miami in recent seasons. K.J. Osborn led Miami with 50 receptions for 547 yards and five TDs in 2019. Charleston Rambo set Miami single-season records with 79 receptions and 1,172 receiving yards in 2021 and also led the Hurricanes with seven TD receptions.
Ladson was the 39th player, seventh WR and fifth in Florida in the Class of 2022. There is a possibility that Ladson could have as many as three seasons of eligibility with Miami despite being a 2019 signee. Every 2020 college football player had their eligibility frozen due to Covid. Ladson played in only four games in 2021.
Groin surgery ended the season after four games for Ladson in 2021. Ladson could ask for a medical redshirt for this past season. The decision to transfer to Miami came nearly six weeks after Ladson entered the portal on December 3. This is the second year in a row Miami has added a transfer from an elite college football program.
Rambo transferred to Miami from Oklahoma. Miami also added cornerback Tyrique Stevenson from Georgia during the 2021 offseason. Stevenson announced earlier this week that he is returning to Miami in 2022. Miami has been one of the most welcoming programs in the four-year history of the transfer portal.
