Miami football brings latest transfer home with RB Henry Parrish

Former Mississippi running back Henry Parrish became the third 2022 transfer and second in as many days to return to South Florida and join the Miami football program. Defensive lineman Jacob Lichtenstein transferred to Miami from USC last month. Wide receiver Frank Ladson announced his transfer to Miami yesterday.

Ladson spent the last three years with Clemson. Parrish was the 227th ranked player, 18th ranked RB and 33rd player in Florida in the Class of 2020. Miami originally prioritized current RBs Don Chaney Jr. and Jaylan Knighton ahead of Parrish in 2020. Knighton was the 106th ranked player, 10th RB and 16th in Florida in 2020.

Chaney was 114th overall, the 11th RB and 18th in Florida in 2020. Parrish announced his transfer on Friday. Miami hired Kevin Smith as their RBs coach on Friday. Smith was the RB coach at Mississippi the last two seasons while Parrish was on the Rebels roster. Parrish adds needed depth for Miami at RB in 2022.

Miami lost Cam’Ron Harris who chose to enter the NFL Draft. Chaney is coming off of a torn ACL last September. In two seasons with Mississippi, Parrish had 814 rushing yards, five touchdowns and 28 receptions for 232 yards. Miami will have plenty of carries to include Chaney, Knighton and Parrish in the rotation.

The Miami football program also returns 2021 signees Cody Brown and Thad Franklin at RB. Parrish is listed at 5’10, 190 pounds. Knighton is also 5’10, 190 and Chaney, 5’10, 208. Brown and Franklin provide Miami with bigger RBs. With Chaney and Harris out at the end of the season, Franklin complemented Knighton late in games.

Miami head coach Mario Cristobal at Oregon in 2021 and Smith at Mississippi both used RBs by committee. Parrish was the fourth leading rusher and third among Misssisppi RBs in 2021 with 551 yards and two TDs. Oregon had four-ball carriers run for at least 397 yards in 2021.

Miami is expected to commit more to running under Cristobal. Cristobal and offensive line coach Alex Mirabal have stated the importance for Miami to play physically. Parrish adds more depth and versatility at RB and should help Miami commit more to the run. Miami will have a lot of competition at RB in 2022.
