"10. TYLER VAN DYKE, MIAMI HURRICANES“After some early-season struggles and the loss of starting quarterback D’Eriq King to injury, Miami was down in the dumps in 2021. That was until redshirt freshman quarterback Tyler Van Dyke stepped in and showed a lot of promise. The 2020 four-star recruit, who was also one of the best pitchers in his region in high school, earned a 75.5 PFF grade across nine starts in 2021. He recorded multiple big-time throws in all but one ACC start and tied for second in the Power Five in big-time throw rate, 7.1%.The 6-foot-4, 224-pounder throws with excellent touch and can hit the big play downfield. Van Dyke is only scratching the surface.”"
Van Dyke showed his ability to throw downfield in his nine starts. Despite not starting the first three games this season, Van Dyke finished tied 13th nationally (including Armstrong) with 26 pass plays of 30 yards or more. Miami and Van Dyke lose their top two WRs in 2022 but have a talented group returning.
Keyshawn Smith is likely to become the deep play threat for Miami replacing Charleston Rambo who left for the NFL. Rising sophomore Jacolby George will be another big-play receiver to watch for Miami. Van Dyke showed the ability to get the ball to his playmakers in his first season as the starting QB.
Van Dyke will have to adapt to a new offense in 2022. Offensive coordinator Rhett Lashlee left Miami to become the head coach at SMU. New Miami head coach Mario Cristobal is still searching for a new OC. When Cristobal was hired last month he said of Van Dyke “ there’s not a better quarterback in the country.”
