Tyler Van Dyke has frequently been mentioned as one of the best players and quarterbacks nationally entering the 2022 season. Van Dyke had a breakout season after Miami lost starter D’Eriq King for the season in a week three loss to Michigan State. In the second half of the season, Van Dyke put up Heisman-type numbers.

After losing winning only one of the first three starts under Tyler Van Dyke, Miami finished the season with five wins in its final six games. Van Dyke threw for over 300 yards and three touchdowns in each of the final six games of the 2021 season. Only Joe Burrow had a streak like that during the College Football Playoff era.

Chris Hummer of 247 Sports named Van Dyke one of the“11 players set to emerge as CFB’s next wave of superstars.” Van Dyke is the foundation of the 2022 Miami football team. Miami returns seven starters on offense in 2022. The Hurricanes lost their top two wide receivers, Mike Harley and Charleston Rambo.

Van Dyke will enter 2022 with a new offensive coordinator and QB coach. Rhett Lashlee left Miami to become the head coach at SMU. New Miami head coach Mario Cristobal is conducting a methodical search to fill out his coaching staff. The new offensive coordinator will be critical for the development of Van Dyke.

"TYLER VAN DYKE, QB, MIAMID’Eriq King’s season-ending shoulder injury early in the 2021 season seemed debilitating for the Hurricanes. Instead, it led to the emergence of Van Dyke, who was one of the best quarterbacks in the country in the second half of the year.Van Dyke finished the season with 2,931 yards passing with 25 touchdowns against just six interceptions. He averaged a healthy nine yards per attempt (10th nationally) and competed (sic) 62.3% of his passes. There are still some questions regarding Van Dyke – like who will call plays in Miami – but I’m still projecting a Year 3 jump. If that happens, he’ll be in the mix with Sam Hartman to be the best QB in the ACC. Miami had the option to go hard after someone like Caleb Williams this offseason. It instead looks like it will stick with Van Dyke. That says a lot about what Mario Cristobal and his new staff think of Miami’s incumbent QB."

Van Dyke finished 2021 four TD passes behind the Miami season record of 29 set by Steve Walsh in 1988. With the streak of at least three TD passes in six straight games to finish the regular season, Van Dyke missed out at a real chance to tie the record set by Walsh before Miami withdrew from the Sun Bowl.

Van Dyke had 20 TD passes in the final six games of the 2021 regular season. With that pace in 2022, Van Dyke would shatter the record set by Walsh. Van Dyke threw for 2,194 yards in the final six games of 2021. The Miami single season passing record is 3,642 yards in 1984 by Bernie Kosar.

Kosar averaged 303.5 passing yards per game in 1984. Van Dyke averaged 325.67 in his nine starts in 2021. With the rate he played in 2021 Van Dyke should shatter single season Miami passing records in 2022. Led by Van Dyke the expectations should be high for the Miami offense in 2022.
