Miami Hurricanes quarterback Tyler Van Dyke was named the 16th best 2023 NFL Draft prospect by Tom Fornelli of CBS Sports. Van Dyke is the third-ranked QB prospect for 2023 behind 2021 Heisman Trophy winner Bryce Young of Alabama and C.J. Stroud of Ohio State. Van Dyke is the fourth-ranked ACC prospect.

Clemson defensive linemen Myles Murphy and Brian Bresee are 13th and 14th and 2021 Biletnikoff Award winner as the best wide receiver in the country, Jordan Addison of Pittsburgh ranks 15th overall. Van Dyke had a breakout season for the Miami Hurricanes after not starting and barely playing in the first three games.

The last six games of the 2021 season are when Van Dyke really broke out. Van Dyke threw for 2,194 yards, 20 touchdowns and three interceptions in the final six games of 2021. Over those six games, Van Dyke also threw for 300 yards and six TDs in each game. Only Joe Burrow has done that in the College Football Playoff era.

Van Dyke has gone from a projected backup in 2021 to a potential 2022 Heisman Trophy candidate and 2023 first-round pick in the NFL Draft. NFL scouts like the size Van Dyke brings at 6’4, 225 pounds, his accuracy and ability to push the ball downfield. Van Dyke was 13th nationally with 26 completions of 30 plus yards.

"16. Tyler Van Dyke, QB, Miami: Van Dyke was a latecomer to the 2021 season, as he didn’t take over the starting job at Miami until late September. But he took the job and ran with it, finishing with 2,931 yards passing and 25 touchdowns while getting better as he became more comfortable in the offense. While he’ll have to learn a new offense in 2022, Van Dyke is one of many reasons Miami fans will enter next season feeling confident, and he could play his way into the top draft pick consideration.”"

New Miami head coach Mario Cristobal has yet to hire an offensive coordinator. Rhett Lashlee left after last season. Wide receivers coach Bryan McClendon followed Cristobal from Oregon and has the title of co-offensive coordinator but is not expected to call plays. The new QB coach and play-caller will be critical for Van Dyke.

After getting his first start three games into last season, Van Dyke will need the offseason to connect with the new offensive coordinator and learn the new system. Van Dyke quickly became the leader of the Miami offense. The calm demeanor Van Dyke showed impressed his teammates and made him the face of the Miami offense.
