What Miami football gets with Oregon transfer OL Logan Sagapolu
The Miami football team added Oregon transfer offensive lineman Logan Sagapolu on Wednesday. Sagapolu adds depth for Miami and gives head coach Mario Cristobal and OL coach Alex Mirabal a player they are familiar with. Sagapolu signed with Oregon in the Class of 2020 as the 614th player nationally and ninth center.
Susan Miller Degnan of the Miami Herald reported that Sagapolu is projected as a center or guard with the Hurricanes. Sagapolu is listed at 6’2, 344 pounds. An injury in training camp caused Sagapolu to miss the entire 2021 season according to Gaby Urrutia of Inside the U. Sagapolu did not play at all as a true freshman in 2020.
Urrutia also reported that Sagapolu chose Miami over, BYU, Nebraska, Utah, Virginia and Washington State. Sagapolu signed with Oregon out of Skyridge High School in Lehi, Utah. Sagapolu is entering his third season in college but has four years of eligibility remaining according to Oregon Live.
Brandon Huffman of 247 Sports likes the footwork and quickness that Sagapolu has and projected him as a multi-year Power Five starter in his scouting report. Miami currently returning starter Jakai Clark and backup Ryan Rodriguez at center. Clark has the option of leaving for the 2023 NFL Draft.
Clark has been a multi-year starter for Miami at center and guard. Rodriguez was the 418th ranked played and 27th interior lineman in the Class of 2022. Miami needed to add depth to its OL. Sagapolu is the first OL added to the Miami roster during the 2022 offseason. No OL have signed with Miami in the 2022 Class.
The Miami football program returns three starters on the OL including Clark. Left tackle Zion Nelson and versatile OL D.J. Scaife also return in 2022. Cristobal and Mirabal are expected to upgrade the talent and development on the Miami OL. Miami was good pass blocking in 2021 but struggled to block for the run.
