The Miami football team will begin ACC play against North Carolina on October 8 at Hard Rock Stadium. Miami opens the 2023 season against Bethune Cookman on September 3. The Hurricanes also play Southern Miss, at Texas A&M and host Middle Tennessee State in their other three 2022 non-conference games.

Miami will try to end a three-game losing streak against North Carolina. The Hurricanes have allowed 107 points the last two seasons against the Tar Heels. North Carolina and Miami both had disappointing 2021 seasons after beginning the year in the top 15. The Tar Heels finished 6-7, Miami 7-5.

A week later Miami will play at Virginia Tech. The Hokies hired Penn State defensive coordinator Brent Pry as their new head coach. Miami has won two in a row, four out of five and six of the last eight games against Virginia Tech. Tyler Van Dyke had 357 yards passing and three touchdowns in a 38-26 Miami victory in 2021.

Miami will host Duke on October 22. The Hurricanes have not defeated the Blue Devils at Hard Rock Stadium since 2016. Miami lost at home to Duke 20-12 in 2018. Duke finished 3-9 in 2021. Head coach David Cutliffe stepped down after 13 seasons and was replaced by former Texas A&M defensive coordinator Mike Elko.

Miami will play at Virginia on October 29. The Hurricanes last won in Charlottesville in 2016. Virginia defeated Miami 16-13 in Charlottesville in 2018. Miami and Virginia return two of the best quarterbacks in the ACC. Armstong was second in the nation and first in the ACC averaging 404.5 passing yards per game.

Virginia was 30-28 in the ACC opener for both teams in 2021. Armstong threw for 268 yards a touchdown and an interception and ran for 19 in the Cavaliers’ victory. Making his first ACC start, Van Dyke threw for 203 and added a 25 yard TD run. The Miami football team was unable to rally from a 13 point third-quarter deficit.

Virginia is one of four ACC Coastal Division teams with new head coaches in 2022. The Cavaliers hired Clemson offensive coordinator Tony Elliott to succeed Bronco Mendenhall. Virginia was 6-6 in its final season under Mendenhall. After Virginia, the Miami football team will play Florida State on November 5.

Miami begins an exciting November with the game against Florida State. New Miami head coach Mario Cristobal was 3-1 against Florida State as a Hurricanes offensive lineman from 1989-1992. Florida State ended a four-game losing streak to Miami last season. Cristobal understands the importance of beating Florida State.

A week after hosting Florida State, Miami has what could be a trap game against Georgia Tech. Miami plays Clemson the week after Georgia Tech. The Hurricanes cannot afford to lack focus after playing Florida State and looking ahead to Clemson the following week. Georgia Tech finished 3-9 in 2021.

Miami has a more challenging ACC schedule in 2022 with Clemson replacing North Carolina State. The Tigers and Wolfpack tied for second in the ACC Atlantic in 2021. Miami defeated North Carolina State at Hard Rock Stadium. In 2022 Miami travels to Clemson on November 19.

Miami transfer wide receiver Frank Ladson will make his return to Clemson after playing for the Tigers for three years. Due to quirks in the schedule because of Covid in 2020, Miami will host Duke and play at Virginia for the first time since 2018.Β Miami will close the 2022 season by hosting Pittsburgh on November 26.

The schedule allows Cristobal and his staff to set the culture and get their systems in place in the ACC before finishing the season with a tough November. Several of the Hurricanes 2022 games should be featured nationally if Miami wins early. That will begin with the game at Texas A&M on September 17.
