Miami football 2022 class 14th nationally after National Signing Day
The 2022 Miami football program moved up to 14th nationally following signing defensive tackle Ahmad Moten, offensive linemen Anez Cooper and Matthew McCoy and running back Trevonte’ Citizen. Miami now has the best 2022 Class in Florida among the seven Football Bowl Subdivision programs.
The Hurricanes entered National Signing Day with the 38th ranked class. Signing Citizen was a big surprise for Miami. Citizen began National Signing Day with multiple 247 Sports Crystal Balls that projected him to sign with Florida. Citizen is the fourth highest-ranked player in the 2022 Miami class and second-ranked on offense.
The acceleration up the recruiting rankings for Miami has them second in the ACC behind Clemson. Clemson is 11th nationally. The four signees on Wednesday add to the 10 Miami signees during the Early Signing Period in December. New head coach Mario Cristobal has quickly made an impact for Miami in recruiting.
The presence of Cristobal has allowed the Miami football program to sign four players ranked in the top 110 nationally in the Class of 2022. Citizen, DL Nyjalik Kelly and Cyrus Moss and tight end Jaleel Skinner are major reasons why the 2022 Miami signing class now ranks 14th nationally.
Miami beat out Florida for Citizen. Skinner flipped to Miami after previously being committed to Alabama. Kelly and Moss were likely going to sign with Cristobal at Oregon before he left for Miami. Cristobal has proven quickly the ability for Miami to compete nationally in recruiting.
Cristobal said during his National Signing Day press conference that Miami is likely finished for the day adding players but there could be some surprises. The need to improve the talent at linebacker was also acknowledged by Cristobal. Cristobal also discussed the transfers that Miami has added.
Alabama-Birmingham transfer Antonio Moultrie will play defensive tackle for Miami. Moultrie often played on the edge for the Blazers. Transfers often occur after college football programs complete spring practice. Cristobal discussed the need to be elite on the line of scrimmage. Miami made that a focus in recruiting.
The Hurricanes have added five defensive linemen and three offensive linemen to their roster since December. Miami is building an excellent foundation on the line of scrimmage. Defensive lineman Nyjalik Kelly and Cyrus Moss are Top 100 signees who Miami added solely because Cristobal was hired.
