Miami Football 2022 Class 15th nationally, first in Florida
The 2022 Miami football signing class excited National Signing Day ranked 15th nationally and first in Florida. Miami zoomed past Florida and Florida State after signing four players on Wednesday. The Hurricanes began National Signing Day ranked 38th. Miami moved up to 14th at one point and is currently 15th nationally.
Florida currently has the 19th ranked signing class and Florida State 20th. The late burst by the 2022 Miami Signing Class shows that recruiting is a marathon and not a sprint. Mario Cristobal being hired as the Miami head coach in December has made a huge impact. The Hurricanes have signed six players since Cristobal’s hiring.
Miami beat out Florida for two signees on Wednesday. Four-star running back Trevonte’ Citizen and three-star offensive tackle Matthew McCoy signed with Miami over Florida. Florida signed eight players on Wednesday and Miami passed the Gators in the recruiting rankings with the four players they signed.
Miami has the fifth-best class by the average ranking per player. The Hurricanes 14 commits have an average ranking of 91.54. Florida players average 88.60 and Florida State 89.48. Florida State currently has 16 players in their 2022 Class. Florida has 17 commits. Miami also has an advantage in blue-chip signees.
The Hurricanes have 10 blue chip signees, Florida seven and Florida State six. None of the top three programs in Florida have any five-star signees. Miami having 10 blue chip signees out of 14 is impressive. The Hurricanes have also added five transfers. Cristobal and his staff have focused on the line of scrimmage.
In addition to McCoy, Miami signed legacy defensive tackle Ahmad Moten and 6’6, 352-pound offensive lineman on Wednesday. Moten is the brother of former Miami DT Anthony Moten. Cristobal acknowledged the one area Miami has to upgrade the roster is at linebacker. Miami did sign four-star LB Wesley Bissainthe.
Bissainthe signed with the Miami football program during the Early Signing Period in December. Cristobal built a top 15 class in less than two months. The 2023 Class could be top 10 with Cristobal having an entire cycle to recruit. With Cristobal as the head coach, Miami can become the best program in Florida, particularly in recruiting.
