The Miami football program shocked the Florida Gators who held five 247 Sports Crystal Balls with the addition of four-star running back Trevonte Citizen. Citizen was previously committed to LSU. Auburn was also strongly involved in the recruitment of Citizen. Citizen is the 107th ranked player, ninth RB and 10th in Louisiana in 2022.

The Miami football program has greatly improved its depth at RB during the offseason. The Hurricanes previously added Mississippi transfer, RB Henry Parrish, last month. Miami now projects to have six scholarship RBs on the roster for 2022. Citizen signs with Miami after visiting the Hurricanes this past weekend.

New Miami running backs coach Kevin Smith has paid immediate dividends. Smith led the recruitment for Citizen and was the RBs coach at Mississippi where he coached Parrish the last two seasons. The addition of Citizen provides Miami with a deep and talented RB corps entering the 2022 season.

Citizen is the most talented of the Miami RBs according to the 247 Composite rankings and the highest-rated player the Hurricanes have signed at the position since five-star Lorenzo Lingard in 2018. In addition to Parrish, Miami returns Cody Brown, Donald Chaney Jr., Jaylan Knighton and Thad Franklin Jr. at RB in 2022.

In four seasons at Lake Charles College Prep, Citizen ran for 1,864 yards, averaged 9.3 yards per carry and scored 25 touchdowns. Citizen was the second player to sign with Miami on Wednesday. The Hurricanes previously added three-star offensive lineman Anez Cooper. Miami is awaiting several other players.

Miami holds most of the projections for three-stars, offensive lineman Matthew McCoy and defensive tackle Ahman Moten. Since Mario Cristobal was hired in December the 2022 Miami class has vaulted to 20th nationally. Miami should move up nationally with National Letters of Intent from McCoy and Moten.

Cristobal has quickly made an impact with recruiting. The 2023 Miami Class should be even higher with a full year under Cristobal. Miami has two commits in 2023. Once Cristobal has the entire staff in place, Miami should be expected to become a major player in the 2023 recruiting class.
