Miami football reportedly targeting Georgia DB coach Jahmile Addae
Bruce Feldman of The Athletic reported on Monday afternoon that according to a “SOURCE: Miami is targeting UGA DB coach Jahmile Addae, a Florida native, to join the Canes’ coaching staff.” The Miami football program hiring Addae would be ironic after losing former wide receivers coach Bryan McClendon to Georgia.
McClendon returned to his home state last month to coach at his alma mater. Last season was the first for Addae with Georgia. Addae has previously been on the staffs at West Virginia, Minnesota, Arizona and Cincinnati in on-field positions. Addae has also worked in an analyst role and coached special teams.
Prior to his coaching career, Addae was a player at West Virginia from 2002 through 2005. Addae began his coaching career as a graduate assistant with the Mountaineers in 2007. As a recruiter, Addae is credited with four of the five five-star 2022 Georgia signees. Addae was the second-best recruiter in the country in 2022.
Addae is from Valrico, Florida outside of Tampa. If Miami can hire Addae away from Georgia he would be a huge addition to the Miami football program. Miami hired Josh Gattis as offensive coordinator on Sunday away from Michigan. Mario expects the Miami staff to be near completion by the end of this week.
Addae coached a historically elite Georgia defense in 2021. The Bulldogs finished 12th nationally in pass defense last season allowing 189.1 yards per game. Georgia was second nationally allowing 5.6 yards per game. The Bulldogs tied for eighth nationally with 16 interceptions. Addae has a strong history coaching DBs.
As the secondary coach at West Virginia in 2020, Addae helped the Mountaineers lead the nation in pass defense allowing 159.6 yards per game. West Virginia tied for 22nd with 11 interceptions in 2020. Miami would be hiring an elite coach and recruiter if they can entice Addae to leave Athens for Coral Gables.
