New Miami Hurricanes defensive coordinator Kevin Steele told reporters during his introductory press conference on Thursday that all things are on the table in reference to what position he will coach. The position Steele coaches will be determined by Mario Cristobal finding the best fit for the staff.

With defensive backs coach Jahmile Addae and defensive line coach Joe Salave’a hired, linebackers seem the most like position that Steele will coach. For the majority of his career, Steele has been a LBs coach. Steele also has experience coaching DBs, but he has not coached the DL during his career.

Steele mentioned that Cristobal is trying to get the best fits as a recruiter, teacher and developer of the players on the team is what Miami is striving for to fill out the staff. Asked about potential movement of defensive players Steele said the staff is evaluating players and trying to put them in the best place. Steele expects some movement during and after spring practice. Steele did not mention any players who have the potential to change positions. Steele discussed his role on the Miami staff.

"“I’ve coached linebackers, I’ve coached safeties, I’ve been a walk-around coordinator. I’ve coached outside backers…You probably need to throw up your hands if you see me coaching the D-line. But that’s a whole ‘nother world in there. At this present time, all things are on the table.Coach is trying to get the best fit for the University of Miami — dynamic recruiters, dynamic teachers, men that will change and develop young men on and off the field to his standard.”"

Steele has been a DC in 12 of the last 15 seasons. Throughout his career as a DC Steele has led strong defenses. Steele has spent most of his coaching career in the Southeast. Discussing Miami finishing 128th nationally in tackling last season, Steele stated he has observed that tackling has regressed throughout football.
