Miami Hurricanes linebackers in the Superbowl

Any talk of Miami alums at LB in the Superbowl begins with Lewis. Lewis had five tackles and four pass breakups in the Ravens 34-7 victory in Superbowl XXXV. It took Baltimore 12 years to earn another Superbowl berth. In the final game is his NFL career, Lewis had seven tackles as Baltimore won Superbowl XLVII.

Dan Morgan might have had the greatest performance by a Miami alum in a Superbowl. Playing for the Carolina Panthers in a 32-29 loss to the Patriots in SB XXXVII Morgan had 18 tackles. That followed up 13 tackles, one tackle for loss, an interception and three pass breakups in the NFC Championship Game.

Jonathan Vilma had one of the best all-around games in a Superbowl by a Miami football alum. In a magical New Orleans Saints season, Vilma had five tackles, two pass breakups, a forced fumble and a fumble recovery. The Saints’ defense was a big reason they defeated the Peyton Manning led Indianapolis Colts 31-17.

The Superbowl XLIV victory by New Orleans remains their only appearance in the game. Vilma was one of three former Hurricanes that won a Superbowl with Miami. With tight end Jeremy Shockey, Vilma joined an exclusive club of winning a college football national championship and a Superbowl.
