The hiring of Mario Cristobal in December has helped upgrade the talent on the Miami football roster.

Cristobal has added multiple players to the Miami roster signing freshmen in the Class of 2022 and the addition of transfers during the offseason. Several of the additions are the highest rated at their position for Miami.

Cristobal was an offensive lineman for Miami from 1988 through 1992. Upgrading the talent and performance at the line of scrimmage will be the priority for Cristobal, defensive line coach Joe Salave’a and OL coach Alex Mirabal. New offensive coordinator Josh Gattis replaces Rhett Lashlee.

Miami finished 23rd averaging 34.1 points per game in 2021 and 20th with 449.9 total yards per game. Expect Gattis to strive for a more balanced offense in 2022. The Hurricanes averaged 321.2 passing yards per game in 2021 and 128.8 yards per game. Miami has seven starters returning on offense in 2022.

Three players new to the Miami roster since Cristobal was hired in December are the top-rated Hurricanes at their position. Two players who signed with Miami when Lashlee was the OC remain the highest-rated Hurricanes at their positions when they originally signed to matriculate in Coral Gables.

The expectations should be that the average player on the Miami football roster will improve with Cristobal as the Hurricanes head coach.

Miami had the 13th most talented college football roster in 2021 according to 247 Sports.

The Hurricanes signed the sixth-best 2022 class by averaging player rating.

Miami has significantly upgraded their roster at quarterback over the last three classes. Tyler Van Dyke paid dividends with a breakout 2021 season after signing with Miami in 2020.

The Hurricanes signed Jake Garcia in 2021 and Jacurri Brown in the 2022 class to create a deep and talented QB corps for the future.
