Miami Hurricanes RB Henry Parrish one of ACC’s top 5 transfers
The addition of Mississippi transfer running back Henry Parrish and 2022 signee TreVonte Citizen gives the Miami Hurricanes one of the deepest rosters at the position in college football. Parrish should challenge incumbent starter Jaylan Knighton and Don Chaney Jr. who is returning from a torn ACL to be the starter.
Parrish was named by On3.Com as one of the “Five Key Transfers into the ACC.” The Miami Hurricanes also return 2021 signees Thad Franklin and Chad Brown at RB in 2022. Franklin was productive in the final two games of 2021. Against Virginia Tech and Duke, Franklin had 15 carries for 81 yards and a touchdown.
Most of those carries came in the second half to ice victories. Parrish was a key contributor in his two seasons at Mississippi. Equally productive as a runner and receiver, Parrish had 814 rushing yards on 5.1 yards per carry and five TDs with 28 receptions for 232 yards. Spring practice will be competitive at RB.
Parrish is the only Miami Hurricanes transfer on the list from On3. Clemson transfer Frank Ladson could have a greater chance to contribute to the Miami football team than Parrish. The Miami Hurricanes are not as deep at WR as they are at RB. Ladson will likely have a great opportunity to start than Parrish will in 2022.
"Miami RB Henry Parrish“The buzz: Parrish, a former star at Miami Columbus, was a productive member of a deep Ole Miss backfield the past two seasons; he rushed for 816 yards and five TDs while sharing carries with two other running backs as well as QB Matt Corral. He’s likely to share time with leading returning rusher Jaylan Knighton and Donald Chaney Jr., assuming Chaney’s return from an ACL injury goes well, as well as true freshman TreVonte’ Citizen. But Parrish seems to have a burst that Knighton (who is averaging less than 4.0 yards per carry through two seasons) doesn’t possess.Parrish also is an effective receiver out of backfield. And it doesn’t hurt Parrish’s cause that Miami’s new running backs (coach) is Kevin Smith, who had held the same job at Ole Miss.”"
Parrish transferred to Miami after not being used much in the final five games of the season for Mississippi. In the Rebels final five games of 2021, Parrish had 19 carries for 89 yards and three receptions for 11 yards. Nine of those carries for 58 yards came in a 29-19 Mississippi victory over Texas A&M in November.
Parrish originally chose Mississippi over Florida and Miami. New Miami RBs coach Kevin Smith was hired from Mississippi. Parrish chose to follow him to Coral Gables. Smith and offensive coordinator Josh Gattis will have a difficult time allocating carries and touches for Miami RBs in 2022.
