Tyler Van Dyke had a breakout season in 2021. Van Dyke is one of the best quarterbacks in the country entering the 2022 season. The ACC was full of high-performing QBs in 2021. Many of those QBs return for the 2022 season. Van Dyke had some excellent battles with some of those returnees in 2021.

Miami defeated North Carolina State and QB Devin Leary. The Hurricanes lost to Virginia and Brennan Armstong last season. Miami does not play North Carolina State in 2022 but does play Virginia as ACC Coastal Division rivals. The preseason All-ACC QB will be interesting when released in July as part of ACC Kickoff Days.

Tyler Van Dyke completed 62.3 percent of his passes for 2,931 yards, 25 touchdowns and six interceptions. Against Virginia Van Dyke had a spectacular 24 yard TD run as part of a Miami comeback attempt that fell a missed field goal short of a win. Van Dyke has a lot of completion to be the best QB in the ACC in 2022.

Sam Hartman of Wake Forest was the second-team All-ACC QB in 2021. Armstrong earned third-team All-ACC and Leary was named honorable mention. Van Dyke was the ACC Offensive Rookie of the Year and ACC Rookie of the Year. With those four QBs returning in 2022 the competition for All-ACC QB will be competitive.

"2. TYLER VAN DYKE, MIAMIVan Dyke filled in for the injured D’Eriq King and found immediate success for Miami. He completed 62.3% of his passes for 2,931 yards and threw 25 touchdowns to six interceptions. Van Dyke should thrive under new head coach Mario Cristobal’s leadership in 2022.He could fight to be the top quarterback in the ACC and put the Hurricanes in conference title contention. Van Dyke had quite the command of the offense last season and that should continue well into 2022."

Sam Marsdale of 247 Sports named Van Dyke the second-best returning QB in the ACC behind Hartman. Armstrong is third on the list by Marsdale, Leary fourth and Malik Cunningham of Louisville who is an outstanding QB in his own right is fifth. Those five QB stand out above the others mentioned on the list.

Armstrong and Van Dyke have the challenge of learning new offenses in 2021. Like Miami with Mario Cristobal, Virginia hired former Clemson offensive coordinator Tony Elliott as their new head coach in 2022. The development Van Dyke has in his second year as the Miami starting QB will be compared to others in the ACC.
