Will Mallory leads a talented corps of tight ends for the Miami football program entering the 2022 season. Mallory led the Miami returnees in 2021 with 30 receptions and four touchdown catches and is second with 347 yards. Sophomore Elijah Arroyo showed promise with five receptions for 87 yards and a TD in 2021.

Four-star 2022 signee Jaleel Skinner was the third-ranked TE in his class and flipped from Alabama to sign with Miami in December. Miami also returns third-year sophomore Dominic Mammarelli and redshirt freshman Khalil Brantley. Arroyo, Mallory and Skinner are likely to receive the majority of the snaps.

Miami is expected to retain Stephen Field from the previous staff as TEs coach. Mario Cristobal and new offensive coordinator Josh Gattis prefer a more physical style than the previous staff. The Hurricanes could often use two TEs in 12 personnel. Arroyo and Mallory will lead the Miami depth chart entering spring practice.

Skinner is one of six early enrollees out of the 14 2022 Miami football signees. Brantley had one reception for seven yards as a true freshman last season. Mammarelli who is more known for his blocking does not have a reception in two seasons with Miami. Arroyo and Skinner are the future for Miami at TE after Mallory.

Mallory is entering his fifth season with Miami in 2022. Miami needs more consistency from Mallory in the 2022 season. Mallory combined for two receptions for 11 yards in back-to-back games against Virginia and North Carolina last season. Mallory’s best game last season was five receptions for 72 yards against Florida State.

Mallory had a 45-yard reception against Florida State and a 57 yard TD catch versus Pittsburgh off a flea-flicker. Less than two minutes earlier against the Panthers, Arroyo had the first TD reception of his career. Gattis will have three skilled receivers at TE in 2022 with Arroyo, Mallory and Skinner.

Brantley provides good depth as another skilled pass catcher. If Gattis wants to get truly creative he could use Arroyo, Mallory and Skinner with one running back and one wide receiver. Arroyo, Mallory and Skinner are all TE/WR hybrids or near hybrids. Gattis showed adaptability as the OC at Michigan the last three seasons.
