Miami baseball hosts big weekend series versus Florida

The 22nd ranked Miami baseball team will host number 14 Florida for a three-game series this weekend. Miami won two out of three games in Gainesville in 2021. Head coach Gino DiMare changed his rotation for this weekend. Alejandro Rosario who started the opening games the first two weekends will not start versus Florida.

Carson Palmquist who was a preseason All-American as a closer will start on Friday night for Miami. Palmquist is 2-0 with a 1.74 earned run average and 0.79 WHIP this season. Freshman Karson Ligon who was the midweek starter for the first two weeks of the season will start on Saturday for Miami.

Ligon is 1-0 with a 2.25 ERA. Jake Garland starts on Sunday with a 2-0 record and  0.00 ERA. Florida enters the weekend with a seven-game winning streak after losing two out of three against Liberty to begin the season. Miami has been one of the most prolific offenses in 2022 with 72 runs in eight games.

The Hurricanes also rank 22nd nationally with a 2.25 ERA. Rosario has allowed 10 of the 17 runs Miami has allowed this season. Florida ranks right below Miami with a 2.30 ERA. Runs could be at a minimum in Coral Gables this weekend. Sunday will be the best opportunity for Miami to get to a Florida starter.

Florida list the Friday starter as Hunter Barco (2-0, 0.75 ERA), Saturday as Brandon Sproat (1-1, 2.00 ERA) and Sunday as Timmy Manning (0-0, 5.63 ERA). The Gators and Hurricanes will have first pitch set for 7 PM on Friday and Saturday with a 1 PM start on Sunday. Miami is well-rested after not having a midweek game.

ACC Network Extra will broadcast the games on Friday and Saturday. The Sunday series finale will be on the ACC Network. Miami leads the all-time series against Florida 132-128-1 with an 81-48 advantage in Coral Gables. The home team has traditionally dominated the series with Florida and Miami.
