Garcia was 11 of 14 for 147 yards two touchdowns and no interceptions against Central Connecticut State in the one game he played last season. Garcia suffered a season-ending ankle injury in the win over the Blue Devils. Prior to the injury, Garcia and Tyler Van Dyke were considered even at QB.

Garcia is now the projected backup to Van Dyke. This spring will be important to Garcia to show he’s healthy and that he can push Van Dyke. Garcia is the highest-rated QB on the Miami roster. With 2022 signee Jacurri Brown, Miami has the best depth they have had at the position in recent memory.

Balom was a solid backup for Miami as a true freshman in 2020. Playing in 10 games with one start, Balom had 10 tackles. Balom is part of a Miami safety unit that has Kamren Kinchens, Avantae Williams and James Williams entering 2022. Kinchens is out this spring. The two Williams have received first-team snaps.
