Miami basketball one of 16 with men and women’s programs in NCAA Tournament
The Miami basketball programs are one of 16 nationally with both teams in the NCAA men’s and women’s Tournaments. Georgia Tech, Miami, North Carolina, Notre Dame and Virginia Tech are the only ACC programs with the men’s and women’s teams in the NCAA Tournament.
The Miami men’s basketball team is making its first NCAA Tournament appearance since 2018. The Miami women’s team is in its first NCAA Tournament since 2019. A 2018 win by the Miami women was the last NCAA Tournament victory by the Hurricanes.
The Miami men have not won an NCAA Tournament game since 2016 when they advanced to the Sweet 16. The Hurricane women have never advanced to the Sweet 16. Miami is 2-5 this against the field in the men’s NCAA Tournament. The Miami women’s team was 8-7 against teams in the tournament field.
Miami started 1-4 against women’s tournament teams before finishing 7-3. The Miami women’s team had big ACC Tournament wins against Louisville and Notre Dame. Louisville is the number one seed in the Wichita Region. Miami finished the season with eight wins in their final 10 games to earn an NCAA Tournament berth.
The Hurricane women are 20-12 entering the NCAA Tournament. Miami played 46.8 percent of its games this season against NCAA Tournament teams. Baylor, Gonzaga, Indiana, LSU, Kansas, Kentucky, Michigan, Ohio State, Villanova, Texas and UConn all have men’s and women’s teams in the NCAA Tournament.
The Miami women lost 53-51 to Indiana in the Baha Mar Hoops Tournament in November in addition to games against the ACC NCAA Tournament teams. The Miami men’s team did not play any of the teams that have had both programs qualify for the 2022 NCAA Tournament.
Miami will open against South Florida on Friday at 11:30 AM in Columbia, South Carolina in the women’s tournament. The Miami men’s team will open against USC in Greenville, SC on Friday at 3:10 PM. The Miami baseball team plays on Friday at Clemson with a 6:00 PM first pitch in the first of a three-game series.

If the Miami basketball teams win on Friday they will advance to Sunday with the times and television networks to be announced. Expect the announcement of game times and networks to occur after games are completed on Friday. This is a big weekend for the Miami Hurricanes athletic department.
