Gaby Urrutia of Inside the U reported on Tuesday morning that the Miami football program has offered former LSU linebacker, Josh White. White was the 142nd ranked player, ninth inside LB and 24th player in Texas in the Class of 2020. If Miami can sign White, he would become the highest-ranked LB on the Hurricanes’ roster.

White was offered a scholarship by the former Miami defensive staff. At LSU, White was recruited by current Baylor head coach Dave Aranda who was the Tigers’ defensive coordinator and current Bears’ defensive line coach Dennis Johnson. Baylor will be a formidable competitor to sign White.

White is an alum of Houston Cy Creek high school and per Urrutia will have four seasons of eligibility remaining. In the two most injury-plagued seasons at LSU, White had six tackles. TCU is the only other offer that White has per Urrutia. Urrutia speculated that LSU switching to a two LB system might have caused his transfer.

The Miami football team will be using the star position as the third LB after utilizing a striker the last four seasons. White is 6’1, 215 pounds. Miami has added seven transfers during the 2022 offseason, but none at LB. Former UCLA LB Mitchell Agude who committed last week is expected to be a defensive lineman for Miami.

Another likely reason for White choosing to move on is that LSU added multiple LBs to their 2022 roster. Kolbe Fields transferred to LSU from South Carolina and West Weeks joined the Tigers from Virginia. Five-star LB Harold Perkins and four-star Demario Tolan signed with LSU as true freshmen in the Class of 2022.

Perkins and Tolan were both considering Miami before signing with LSU. The Hurricanes signed four-star LB Wesley Bissainthe in the Class of 2022. Bissainthe is expected to compete to be a first-team LB this fall. Miami returns primary starters Corey Flagg, Keontra Smith and Waynmon Steed in 2022.
