After Georgia Tech held their Spring Game on March 17, the remainder of the ACC begins this weekend. The Miami football team will play ACC crossover games this season against Clemson and their annual meeting with Florida State. Miami plays Middle Tennessee State and Southern Mississippi in non-conference.
The first of the Miami non-conference opponents to play their Spring Game is this Saturday at 1 PM when Southern Mississippi will scrimmage. Southern Mississippi was 3-9 overall and 2-6 in Conference USA in 2021. The Eagles play at Miami on September 9 after opening in Hattiesburg against Liberty.
After Southern Mississippi plays their Spring Game on Saturday, next weekend the majority of the 2022 Miami football opponents will hold theirs. All of the ACC Spring games will air on the ACC Network. Clemson will begin the day with their Orange and White Scrimmage at 1 PM on April 9. North Carolina is next at 3 PM.
Florida State will hold its Garnet and Gold Spring Football Game at 5 PM on April 9 and the Pittsburgh Blue-Gold Spring Game will air at 9 PM. Texas A&M will also hold its Maroon and White Game on April 9 to be televised by the SEC Network with Dusty Dvoracek and Tiffany Blackmon commenting.
Miami is one of four ACC teams with spring games on April 16. All but Wake Forest will be Miami opponents in 2022. The Hurricanes Spring Game will begin at noon on the ACC Network. Virginia Tech will air beginning at 4 PM, the Duke Blue and White Game will start at 6 PM. Another Miami opponent has their Spring Game April 16.
Middle Tennessee State will travel to Hard Rock Stadium on September 24. The Blue Raiders open the season at FCS James Madison on September 3, Colorado State on September 10 before its home opener on September 17 against FCS Tennessee State. Middle Tennessee State was 7-6 overall and 4-4 in CUSA last season.
The final spring game for Miami opponents is on April 23 at 4 PM when Virginia will have their Spring Game. Several 2022 Miami opponents have new coaches, Duke, Virginia and Virginia Tech all have first-year head coaches in both their programs and overall. Mario Cristobal at least has experience as a head coach.
Watching the spring games of the Miami football opponents will provide Hurricanes fans with an opportunity to look ahead and see which players to watch this fall. With the new coaches in the first year at their programs, the spring will provide us with an opportunity to see their systems in action for the first time.
