After Florida head coach Mike White left to become the head coach at Georgia, 2022 four-star power forward Malik Reneau de-committed from the Gators. The Miami Hurricanes is the leader projected with a 90.3 percent chance of signing Reneau according to On3.Com. Miami currently has the 19th best 2022 class.

The Miami Hurricanes signed four-stars, power forward A.J. Casey, center Favour Aire, small forward Christian Watson and three-star small forward Danilo Jovanovich. All four of the 2022 Miami signees are 6’6 or taller. Miami needed to add size to its roster. The Hurricanes were undersized in 2022.

Reneau scored 14 points and had 12 rebounds as Monteverde Academy defeated Link 60-49 on Saturday to win the GEICO Nationals on Saturday in Fort Myers. The 247 Sports scouting report praises Reneau for his high basketball IQ, play inside and ability as a high to low post passer. Reneau projects as a Power Five starter.

Reneau would be the highest-rated signee for Miami in the Class of 2022 and the third-best in program history. If Miami signs Reneau they would move up to the 10th best class in the country for 2022. Miami is building momentum for the future after making the Elite Eight for the first time and signing a top 20 class.

With Rodney Miller and Sam Waardenburg moving on and Deng Gak potentially turning professional or transferring, the Hurricanes will have opportunities for frontcourt players to compete for playing time immediately. Jim Larranaga and the Miami staff are likely to look to the transfer portal too.

Larranaga has a staff opening after associate head coach Chris Caputo was hired this week to run the basketball program at George Washington. Caputo had been on Larranaga’s staffs at George Mason and Miami for over 15 years. With the GEICO Nationals over, Reneau will be focusing on his recruiting.

dark. Next. Miami basketball will look very different next season

Reneau is ranked as the 29th best player, fifth best power forward and eighth in Florida in the Class of 2022. At 6’8, 210 pounds with the four players Miami has previously signed in the Class of 2022, Larranaga and the Miami basketball program would have excellent size in the future.
