Wide receiver Jacolby George has been impressive for the Miami Hurricanes this spring primarily playing with the first-team offense. George was named 12th among “College football’s rising stars: 22 players to watch ahead of 2022 season.” by Brad Crawford of 247 Sports on Tuesday.

George had seven receptions for 183 yards and a touchdown and 13 punt returns for 142 yards last season. With Charleston Rambo on to the NFL after a record-breaking season, George is poised to breakout in 2022. George should benefit from quarterback Tyler Van Dyke entering his first full season as the starter.

New Miami offensive coordinator Josh Gattis is also the Hurricanes’ WR coach. Gattis worked with elite WRs in 2018 as the Co-offensive coordinator & WR coach at Alabama. George has the potential to become the next great WR to work with Gattis. George has big hands and the speed to make plays all over the field.

The 26.1 yards per receptions George averaged in 2021 led the Miami Hurricanes. That production and his 10.1-yard punt return average bode well for making big plays in 2022. George had his biggest game last season with three receptions for 80 yards in the season finale against Duke. Crawford summarized George.

12. JACOLBY GEORGE, WR, MIAMI

"“Jacolby George is having a breakout spring for the Hurricanes and should be a prime candidate for All-ACC in 2022 if quarterback Tyler Van Dyke performs as well as advertised during Mario Cristobal’s first campaign.George has received most of the first-team reps at the outside receiver position following Charleston Rambo’s departure and has reportedly made the most of his opportunity. The addition of OC Josh Gattis from Michigan could work wonders for the Miami passing game."

George is working on learning the Gattis playbook and building a connection with Van Dyke this spring. Keyshawn Smith is the only returning starter Miami has at WR entering the 2022 season. Smith leads the returning Miami WRs with 26 receptions and 332 yards. George could challenge to be the 2022 Miami leading receiver.

Tight end Will Mallory is the leading Miami returning receiver in 2022 with 30 receptions for 347 yards and four touchdowns last season. The Miami offense will look different than it did last season under former OC Rhett Lashlee. Expect more balance and physicality from Gattis. George is ready to take the next step for Miami.
