Maryland transfer defensive tackle Darrell Jackson tweeted late on Monday night that he will visit the Miami football program this weekend. Jackson signed with Maryland in December 2020 and spent only the 2021 season with the Terrapins. Maryland signed Jackson out of Gadsen County High School in Havana, Florida.

Jackson chose Maryland over Georgia Tech, Miami and Tennessee. Florida State hosted Jackson for an unofficial visit this past weekend and he previously visited Florida. Jackson grew up 15 miles from Doak Campbell Stadium. Florida is currently the favorite to sign Jackson as a transfer according to multiple recruiting sites.

Jackson played in all 13 games with one start, recording 22 tackles for Maryland as a true freshman in 2021. Mario Cristobal and the Miami football staff have made it a priority to improve the depth and talent on the defensive and offensive lines. Jackson would be the fourth DL Miami has added as a transfer this offseason.

A three-star signee with Maryland, Jackson was the 715th ranked player, 90th DL and 95th in Florida in the Class of 2021. Jackson would add depth for Miami at DT. Jared Harrison-Hunte and Leonard Taylor are the projected starting DTs for Miami in 2022. Transfers Jacob Lichtenstein and Antonio Moultrie are the projected backups.

Miami is expected to continue to be active in the transfer portal. West Virginia edge rusher Ahkeem Mesidor is still strongly considering Miami. Miami is the frontrunner to sign former UCLA linebacker Caleb Johnson who would join edge rusher Mitchell Agude as a former Bruin on the Miami football roster.

Miami would add much-needed size with Jackson in the middle of the DL. Jordan Miller at 6’4, 320 pounds is currently the biggest DL on the Miami roster. Miller will be an important part of the rotation for Miami at DT in 2022. Jackson is making several visits before he will make a decision on his transfer destination.
