The first big game on the 2022 Miami football schedule is September 17 at Texas A&M. Playing at Texas A&M and Clemson on November 19 are difficult tests for Mario Cristobal in his inaugural season as the Hurricanes’ head coach. Miami holds a two-to-one advantage over Texas A&M in the all-time series.

The game in College Station will be the first time Jimbo Fisher will face the Miami football program since he left Florida State for Texas A&M following the 2017 season. Texas A&M will likely be the highest-ranked non-conference opponent Miami has played since losing the 2019 season opener against Florida.

Texas A&M will be the first non-conference opponent Miami will play on the road since losing at number 24 Nebraska in 2014. Cristobal will be able to draw on his experience leading number 22 Oregon to a 35-28 win at Ohio State last season and express that to the Miami football players.

Miami won 41-23 in its only game at Texas A&M in 2008. The Hurricanes also defeated the Aggies 34-17 the season before in Miami. Austin Nivison of 247 Sports examined Miami at Texas A&M as part of “ACC football: Every team’s toughest non-conference game in 2022.” Miami at Texas A&M will be a College Gameday candidate.

"MIAMI | AT TEXAS A&M | SEPT. 17“Mario Cristobal doesn’t have to wait long for his first major test as the head coach at Miami. Kyle Field is one of the most hostile environments in all of college football, and the Hurricanes will have a lot of noise to deal with in this one.Texas A&M has been trending in the right direction under Jimbo Fisher and just signed the No. 1 signing class in the country. Cristobal is hoping to jumpstart his alma mater, and getting a win against the Aggies would really make a statement. These two teams last met for a home-and-home series in 2007 and 2008.Miami won both of those matchups by multiple scores.”"

Miami will be expected to win its other three non-conference games. The Hurricanes host Bethune-Cookman in the season opener on September 3, Southern Mississippi on September 10 and Middle Tennessee State on September 24. Miami begins ACC play on October 8 against North Carolina.

The game at Texas A&M is the only one Miami will play on the road during the first six weeks of the 2022 season. Playing at Clemson in 2020 should have the Miami veterans prepared for the Texas A&M crowd. This will be the toughest test of the young tenure of Miami quarterback Tyler Van Dyke.
