As first reported by Jon Rothstein of CBS Sports the Miami basketball program has hired Charlotte assistant Kotie Kimble as a new assistant coach. Kimble replaces Chris Caputo who was hired as the head coach at George Washington. Kimble spent the last four seasons at Charlotte and is a 2007 Coastal Carolina graduate.

Prior to Charlotte, Kimble was on the staff at William and Mary for from 2011 through 2018. A unnamed Conference USA assistant coach told Jeff Goodman of Stadium that Kimble brought offensive concepts from his time on the Willam and Mary staff to Charlotte. Prior to William and Mary, Kimble coached at UNC Asheville.

Kimble coached at UNC Asheville under legendary head coach and former North Carolina State player Eddie Biedenbach. UNC Asheville defeated Arkansas-Little Rock in the First Four in the 2011 NCAA Tournament with Kimble as an assistant coach before losing in the first round to Pittsburgh.

Kimble helped Charlotte sign the top ranked class in CUSA in each of his four seasons on the staff. At Charlotte, Kimble helped coach Jahmir Young who is currently one of the top transfers available. Young averaged 16.7 points per game, 5.4 rebounds and three assists, starting 85 games in three seasons.

Miami is expected to add one transfer guard and one front court player for the 2021-22 season. Former Kansas State guard Nijel Pack announced his commitment to the Miami basketball program on Saturday. Miami beat out Purdue and Ohio State for the commitment from Pack. Kimble will help recruit the addition transfer.

Kimble helped Charlotte to 10 CUSA wins in 2020. Charlotte finished fourth in CUSA after being picked to finish 12th. Miami finished fourth in the ACC this past season after being picked to finish 12th. Kimble was part of the staff at Charlotte when Ron Sanchez was hired before the start of the 2018-19 season.

Charlotte has alternated winning and losing seasons in the four years under Sanchez with Kimble on the staff. The 49ers finished 17-14 this past season. Charlotte has not earned a postseason appearance since 2013. Miami earned its first postseason since 2018 advancing to the the Midwest Regional Final.
