Miami football players Tyler Johnson and Issiah Walker expected transfers
According to Barry Jackson of the Miami Herald, linebacker Tyler Johnson has entered the transfer portal via CaneSport and offensive lineman Issiah Walker is expected to also leave the Hurricanes. The Miami football program lost four players to the transfer portal over the weekend. More transfers could be made public soon.
Defensive Cameron Williams, LB Deshawn Troutman, punter Nelson Foley and wide receiver Daz Worsham, all entered the portal over the weekend per various reports. Miami has added five defensive linemen, two OL, and a LB through the transfer portal during the 2022 offseason. Several 2022 transfers could start for Miami.
Walker transferred to Miami in the spring of 2020 after spending less than one semester at Florida. Due to personal reasons Walker did not play last season and missed the spring. Walker also did not play in 2020. Walker was the 157th ranked player, 15th offensive and 24th in Florida in the Class of 2020.
Signing Walker from the Gators was a hopeful for a Miami OL that struggled in 2019. The former four-star recruit was never able to live up to his rating. Walker returned home from Gainesville after playing in high school at Miami Norland. Miami could add another transfer OL with the departure of Walker.
Miami added 2022 signees Anez Cooper and Matthew McCoy on the OL and transfers Jonathan Denis and Logan Sagapolu from Oregon. Three-star OL Antonio Tripp and Frankie Tinilau are committed to Miami for 2023. The hiring of Mario Cristobal as head coach and Alex Mirabal for the OL should improve Miami upfront.
Johnson is the brother of former Miami star safety Jaquan. A 2021 signee, Johnson was the 537th ranked player, 57th LB and 76th in Florida. Johnson did not record any stats as a true freshman. Miami signed UCLA transfer LB Caleb Johnson and four-star 2022 signee Wesley Bissanthe to add to the roster this fall.
Jackson reported that Miami would like to add a WR if the right one becomes available. Miami added WR Frank Ladson as a transfer from Clemson and signed Isaiah Horton in the 2022 Class. The deadline for transfers was Sunday to gain immediate eligibility for the 2022 season without a waiver.
