The Miami football program is expected to enter the mix for Pittsburgh transfer wide receiver Jordan Addison according to Chris Hummer of 247 Sports. USC is considered the overwhelming favorite to sign Addison. Addison officially entered the transfer portal on Tuesday after it had been rumored last week.
The NIL deal with USC is reportedly worth over $1 million. Barry Jackson of the Miami Herald reported on Monday the Hurricanes are looking for the right WR. Addison would instantly become the number one WR for Miami. The Hurricanes do not have a clear number one entering the 2022 season.
As good as Charleston Rambo was for the Miami football program in 2021, Addison won the Biletnikoff Award as the best WR in college football in 2021. The former three-star signee finished with 100 receptions for 1,593 yards and 17 touchdowns last season. Alabama, Georgia, Texas and USC are the other main suitors for Addison.
The Pittsburgh Post Gazette reported Addison submitted his request to enter the transfer portal by the Sunday deadline to receive eligibility for the 2022 season without a waiver from the NCAA. Pittsburgh had two business days to process the request leading to Addison entering the portal being made public on Tuesday.
Pete Thamel of ESPN reported that “A person close to Addison said Tuesday that the expectation remains that Addison will run a formal process after his name appears in the portal. He has yet to make up his mind on a destination, and there’s no expectation of an imminent decision, according to the person.”
Thamel speculated that the decision by Addison could relate more to the best situation for him to make the NFL and not a NIL bidding war. The fact that Miami, Texas and USC had seemingly endless NIL packages cannot hurt. The return of quarterback Tyler Van Dyke also has to help Miami.
Alabama QB Bryce Young and Caleb Williams of USC and Van Dyke will all be mentioned in the early season favorites to win the Heisman Trophy. Texas is projected to start Ohio State transfer Quinn Ewers who has not played in college. Miami has added 11 transfers for the 2022 season including former Clemson WR Frank Ladson.
