Miami Hurricanes quarterback Tyler Van Dyke was named by 247 Sports as the fourth co-favorite for the 2022 Heisman Trophy with Clemson signal-caller D.J. Uiagalelei. C.J. Stroud of Ohio State is the favorite, defending Heisman Trophy winner Bryce Young of Alabama second and Caleb Williams of USC third.

Van Dyke threw for 2,931 yards, 25 touchdowns and six interceptions. In the final six games of the 2021 season, Van Dyke thew for 300 yards and three touchdowns in each game. Van Dyke will be in a new offense in 2022. New head coach Mario Cristobal hired Josh Gattis to replace Rhett Lashlee as the new offensive coordinator.

Miami will strive for a more balanced offense in 2022. Tyler Van Dyke was 14th nationally averaging 293.1 passing yards per game in 2021. Van Dyke was 27th in TD passes despite playing in only 10 games. Van Dyke was one of only two QBs nationally in the top 30 in TD passes who played in just 10 games.

When Cristobal was hired in December he proclaimed Van Dyke the best QB in college football. Van Dyke will significantly have to increase his numbers to reach that acclaim nationally. Young was second in FBS with 47 TD passes and Stroud third with 44. Van Dyke should challenge for All-ACC first-team QB.

"TYLER VAN DYKE, QB, MIAMI (+3000)There’s a reason Miami first-year coach Mario Cristobal speaks of Tyler Van Dyke as one of the nation’s best overall players, regardless of position. He’s got an up-close view of his team’s best player this spring after spending hours on the flight from Oregon to Miami combing over his highlights.Van Dyke filled in for the injured D’Eriq King and found immediate success for Miami last season with 25 touchdown passes and nearly 3,000 yards through the air. Given the unknowns at the top of the ACC Coastal, Van Dyke will have a shot in the Heisman race at +3000 as long as the Hurricanes stay in the conference title race throughout."

Miami will likely be favored to compete with Pittsburgh in the ACC Coastal. Virginia returns QB Brennan Armstrong but also has a new coach. Pittsburgh added former USC QB Kedon Slovis to replace ACC Player of the Year Kenny Pickett. Having the entire offseason as the clear starting QB should help Van Dyke.

He will be able to learn the Gattis offense and has become the clear team leader. Games against Texas A&M on September 17 and Clemson on November 19 will be a chance for Van Dyke to have the attention of a national audience. Miami has not had a top Heisman Trophy finisher since Ken Dorsey in 2002.
