Miami football gets visit from elite UCF transfer WR Jaylon Robinson
Elite Central Florida wide receiver Jaylon Robinson who had a breakout season in 2020 is visiting the Miami football program on Wednesday and Thursday according to multiple reports. Robinson had 55 receptions for 979 yards and six touchdowns in 2020 before a season-ending knee injury caused him to miss half of 2021.
Robinson originally signed with Oklahoma in the Class of 2018 as an athlete and kick returner. The Fort Worth All Saints Episcopal High School prospect was the 63rd-ranked player in Texas in 2018. Robinson has not returned kicks in college but had 669 yards in kickoff and punt returns as a senior in high school.
The Miami football team could use Robinson on returns. Rising sophomore Jacolby George showed explosiveness as a punt returner in 2021, but Miami lacked productivity from their kick returners last season. Robinson entered the transfer portal on April 21 and has taken visits to Mississippi, TCU, and Tennessee.
Robinson told Sports Illustrated that Mississippi envisions using him like former Rebels star WR Elijah Moore. TCU is the hometown school and Robinson knows the staff of the new Horned Frogs’ head coach Sonny Dykes when he coached SMU. Tennessee is being considered with former UCF coach Josh Heupel.
Robinson will have a relatively quick decision to make with a tweet on Monday he will announce which program he will commit to on May 18. Mississippi is considered the prohibitive favorite to sign Robinson via On3.Com. That projection was likely made before Robinson was considering Miami.
Robinson would give Miami a dynamic playmaker, likely as a potential kick returner and slot receiver. Xavier Restrepo projects as the starting slot receiver for Miami in 2022 with rising sophomore Brashad Smith receiving a significant amount of snaps. Smith is also a dynamic playmaker with game-breaking ability.

Robinson told SI he is not deterred by a deep WR corps with the program he signs with and realizes he needs to prove himself with his new team. Georgia was initially being considered by Robinson but he choose to take his final visit to Miami. Robinson realizes he has to prove he is healthy after the injury last season.
