The Miami football team opens the 2022 season at home against Bethune-Cookman on September 3. Miami hosts Southern Mississippi on September 10 before traveling to College Station Texas for its first road game of 2022 versus Texas A&M. The Aggies are projected to give Miami its first loss of 2022 by 247 Sports.

The game at Texas A&M should be the first big test during the Mario Cristobal era for the Miami football program. Miami will be big favorites to defeat Bethune-Cookman and Southern Mississippi. The game at Texas A&M and on November 19 at Clemson are the marquee matchups for Miami in the 2022 season.

Miami has won two of the three games in the series with Texas A&M. The Hurricanes won the last game with the Aggies 41-23 in 2008 in College Station. Texas A&M is in a bit of its own transition entering the 2022 season. The Aggies replaced defensive coordinator Mike Elko who left to become the head coach at Duke.

Former Maryland head coach D.J. Durkin is succeeding Elko. Texas A&M will also start a new quarterback in 2022. Former LSU QB Max Johnson, nephew of former Miami head coach Mark Richt is the projected 2022 starter. Miami will have the advantage at QB with Tyler Van Dyke returning as the starter.

"“MIAMI: SEPT. 17 AT TEXAS A&MThis would not be a disappointing loss by any stretch in Year 1 of the Mario Cristobal era, as going to College Station early in the season is a massive challenge. The Hurricanes absolutely have the manpower to come out with an upset, but it will be tough.Kyle Field is one of the toughest places to play in the country and will serve as a tough adjustment for Miami coming in off two home games.”"

Sam Marsdale summarized the outlook for the Miami game at Texas A&M. The Aggies were 6-1 at home in 2021. The lone loss for Texas A&M at Kyle Field in 2021 was 26-22 to Mississippi State. Included in the six wins was a victory over then number one and eventual national runner-up Alabama.
