The Miami baseball team earned the third seed in the ACC Tournament after finishing in a tie with Virginia Tech for first place in the ACC Coastal Division. The Hokies won two out of three against Miami in Blacksburg in April to earn the tiebreaker as the number one seed in the ACC Tournament that begins Tuesday.

Virginia Tech finished 19-9 in the ACC, Miami 20-10. Louisville won the ACC Atlantic Division with an 18-11-1 record to earn the second seed. The two division winners automatically earn the top two seeds in the ACC Tournament. Miami will be in the same pool as North Carolina State and Wake Forest.

The top 12 teams in the ACC advances to the tournament and are played in four three-team pools. The winner of each pool advanced to the semifinals which are on Saturday. If the Miami baseball team finishes in a tie with North Carolina State and Wake Forest they would advance to the semifinals as the higher seed.

Miami did not play North Carolina State or Wake Forest this season. Wake Forest finished the regular season 39-16-1 overall and 15-14-1 in the ACC to earn the sixth seed in the Tournament. North Carolina State is 33-20 and finished 14-15 in the ACC to earn the 10th seed in the Tournament.

Wake Forest swept North Carolina State in Raleigh this weekend. The Demon Deacons outscored the Wolfpack 19-4 in the three games. Miami was eighth in the RPI entering the games on Saturday. The win on Saturday by Miami over Notre Dame who has an RPI of 14 should help the Hurricanes move up.

Miami hopes to secure hosting a regional with a good performance in the ACC Tournament. Wake Forest is 15th in the RPI and North Carolina State was 37th before losing to the Demon Deacons on Saturday. Miami lost to Duke and Florida State in pool play in the 2021 ACC Baseball Tournament as the fourth seed.

The ACC will announce the schedule of games for the 2022 ACC Tournament on Sunday. Notre Dame is the fourth seed in the 2022 ACC Tournament. Wins in Charlotte will greatly help Miami in the quest to host the regional. Earning a top-eight seed means Miami would host a Super Regional if they advance out of the regionals.
