Multiple high-level high school prospects have mentioned the difference in the Miami football staff since Mario Cristobal was hired in December. Having Pro Football Hall of Famers, Ed Reed and Jason Taylor have also been discussed by some potential Miami recruits. Reed is entering his third season as the Miami Chief of Staff.

Taylor was hired by Cristobal during the 2022 offseason as a defensive analyst. Prior to being hired by Cristobal, Taylor spent the last five seasons at St. Thomas Aquinas as the Raiders’ defensive line coach from 2017-19 and defensive coordinator in 2020 and 2021. Reed and Taylor cannot recruit off-campus.

Reed can provide the perspective of a player who won a national championship at Miami. Taylor spent the majority of his NFL career with the Dolphins. Reed and Taylor are both familiar with the football culture of South Florida. Taylor’s sons are both college football players, Isaiah for Arizona and Mason for LSU.

Speaking to Rivals.Com, four-star edge rusher Nyckoles Harbor spoke about his recruitment with the Miami football program and the impact that Cristobal, Reed and Taylor have had on him. The ability to speak to two Hall of Famers is clearly having an impact on potential Miami prospects in recruiting.

"Miami– “I haven’t been there yet…Their pursuit changed when the coaching staff changed. Once coach Cristobal got there, he was recruiting me at Oregon, I got on the phone with him a couple times and we really started hitting it off. Then I got on the phone with Jason Taylor and Ed Reed, two Hall of Famers, and it seemed like things were changing down at Miami. On top of that, they’re starting to get good recruits and I’m starting to like what’s going on there. The vibe there is definitely changing and I think they’re going to do good things this year.”"

Miami currently has the 34th ranked 2023 Class by Rivals. The Hurricanes only have five 2023 commits. After Cristobal was able to sign the 16th ranked Class per the 247 Sports composite rankings, Miami should be able to sign a top 15 2023 class with a full year under Cristobal. Cristobal hired an elite staff.

Reed and Taylor enhance the staff of elite recruiters that Cristobal hired for the Miami football program. Harbor is listed as an athlete but projected as an edge rusher in college. The ability for him to learn from Taylor who played the same position would have any prospect intrigued by a program.
