Miami football alums impacting 5-star athlete Nyckoles Harbor recruiting
The Miami football program is continuing to recruit five-star athlete Nyckoles Harbor hard. Several Miami football alums have spoken to Harbor according to his father via 247 Sports. With Mario Cristobal as head coach and Alonzo Highsmith and Ed Reed on the Miami staff, expect Hurricanes’ alums to be more involved in recruiting.
Miami was named in the top seven for Harbor with Michigan, USC, Maryland, Georgia, LSU and South Carolina. Harbor did not mention which Miami alums they have spoken with. Several other Miami alums are on the Hurricanes’ staff in addition to Cristobal, Highsmith and Reed. Cristobal has hired a staff of elite recruiters.
Miami alums Mike Rumph and DeMarcus VanDyke are on the Hurricanes’ recruiting staff. Rumph and Van Dyke preceded Jahmile Addae as the Miami cornerbacks/defensive backs coach. Nine inductees into the Pro Football Hall of Fame are from Miami. Miami can also call on Jason Taylor who is on their staff.
Azuka Harbor should understand the recruiting process. While not nearly as extensive as football recruiting, known as Jean, Azuka played college soccer at Alabama A&M. Harbor who is originally from Nigeria, had 15 caps with the US Men’s Soccer team. Harbor spoke to Steve Wiltfong of 247 Sports.
"“As far as Miami is concerned, some of the people that reach out to us, is a mind blowing thing. Some of the students who played in the NFL and their big guns that played in the NFL and the rich tradition of that. There are some people you never thought you’d talk to in this life and your see them play in the NFL and that person is calling me?!”"
Recent high-profile alums that Cristobal and the Miami staff can call on to speak to recruits include 2021 NFL first-round draft picks, defensive ends Jaelan Phillips of the Dolphins and Greg Rousseau of the Buffalo Bills. With Nyckoles Harbor projected as a DE in college, Phillips and Rousseau would be able to help Harbor.
Three-star linebacker Bobby Washington is the only commit to Miami on defense for 2023. The scouting report from Brian Dohn of 247 Sports stated that Harbor “Can sculpt body to play tight end, linebacker or edge. Harbor ran 10.38 in 100 meters with most recruiting analysts projecting him as an edge rusher in college.
