Miami baseball NCAA Tournament regionals delayed until Saturday
The Miami baseball team will not play its first game in the 2022 NCAA Tournament until at least Saturday. Miami was scheduled to play Canisius on Friday in the first game of the 2022 Coral Gables regional. Arizona and Mississippi were scheduled to play the other game of the four-team regional on Friday.
Canisius was scheduled to play Miami originally at noon on Friday. The Golden Griffins and Hurricanes had their game moved up from an original start time of noon to 10 AM. Arizona and Mississippi were originally scheduled to begin their game at 7 PM ET. The Wildcats and Rebels were moved up to the afternoon.
Arizona and Mississippi had a rescheduled start time of 55 minutes following the end of the Canisius and Miami game. The weather for Saturday at noon has about an 80 percent chance of rain. The evening forecast in Coral Gables drops below a 50 percent chance of rain. Games are not permitted to start after 11 PM per the NCAA.
The Miami baseball team enters the NCAA Tournament with a 39-20 record. The Hurricanes lost six of their last eight games. Miami went two and out at the ACC Tournament. North Carolina State beat Miami 9-6 and Wake Forest run-ruled Miami 16-3. Miami received the number six national seed in the NCAA Tournament.
Miami is hosting a regional for the first time since 2016. If the Hurricane advanced out of the regional, they will host the super regional for the first time since 2016. The Coral Gables regional winner will play the winner of the Hattiesburg regional in the super regional next weekend for a trip to the College World Series.
Miami advanced 23 of the 27 times they have hosted a regional. The Hurricanes are 88-17 in regional games played at Mark Light Field. Miami has reached the College World Series each of the seven times they have been a national seed. The NCAA started seeding teams nationally with the 1999 NCAA Tournament.
