The Miami football program is in the second-best position to receive a commitment from four-star cornerback Damari Brown after being named a finalist for the American Heritage prospect on Thursday. Miami was named a finalist with Alabama, Clemson, Florida State, LSU and Oklahoma.

The On3 prediction machine projects Clemson as the front runner to receive a commitment from Brown at 40.3 percent. Miami is second at 23.9 percent. Brown has an official visit scheduled to Clemson this weekend. Since Mario Cristobal was hired in December, Miami has received three unofficial visits from Brown.

On3 rates Brown as the 211th ranked player nationally, the 22nd best CB and 41st in Florida. Miami currently only has five commits to their 2023 Class. Three-star linebacker Robby Washington is the only defensive player committed to Miami for 2023. Miami could have a big turnover at CB after the 2022 season.

Fourth-year junior Tyrique Stevenson will likely enter the 2023 NFL Draft with a productive 2022 season. Several other Miami CBs are eligible for the 2023 NFL Draft. Miami could also lose other CBs to the transfer portal during the 2023 offseason depending on playing time in 2022. Brown spoke to On3 about his recruitment.

"“Coach Cristobal and (Jahmile) Addae are making it hard for me to leave…They believe that they have something good that they are building, and can bring Miami back to a national caliber team. With all the pieces from recruiting, facilities, winning, they just put a master plan together and want me to believe in it.They have a big vision and I believe that they can change things.”"

Miami defensive backs coach Jahmile Addae who Cristobal hired during the offseason from Georgia was the second-best recruiter during the 2022 cycle per the 247 Sports rankings. Hiring Addae away from Georgia was a huge addition to the Miami football program, particularly in recruiting.

The comments from Brown are similar to what most other 2023 prospects have said about the Miami football program. Cristobal has led a change in attitude with Miami. June is a big month for Miami with over 20 prospects taking official visits to Coral Gables. The Hurricanes could start to receive more commits in the next month.
