Miami baseball NCAA Tournament results and schedule updates

The Miami baseball team rallied for an 11-6 victory in their opening game against Canisius in the 2022 NCAA Tournament. Heavy rain on Friday and throughout Saturday afternoon delayed the start of the Coral Gables Regional until 5:30 PM ET on Saturday. Miami advances to play Mississippi on Sunday.

Mississippi rallied twice from two-run deficits to defeat Arizona 7-4 in the second game on Saturday night. The Rebels and Wildcats played well past midnight. Arizona has an extremely quick turnaround. Arizona plays Canisius in an elimination game that begins on Sunday at 11 AM eastern time.

Miami and Mississippi will play the winners’ bracket game on Sunday with a projected 3:06 PM ET start. The winner between Arizona and Canisius will play the loser of Miami and Mississippi at 7 PM ET Sunday night. The regional final will be played on Monday. All of the games are being broadcast by ESPN Plus.

The Miami baseball team won their regional opener after Canisius took a 4-1 lead in the top of the second inning. The Hurricanes tied the game with three runs in the fourth inning and added four in the seventh and three in the eighth. Canisius added a run in the top of the ninth inning to close out the scoring.

Miami was led by a historic performance by third baseman Yohandy Morales with three home runs in the win over Canisius. Morales is the fourth Miami player and first since 2010 to hit three home runs in a postseason game. Morales leads Miami with 17 HRs this season and is tied for the team lead with Jacob Burke with 57 RBIs.

Mississippi received a good start from starter Dylan DeLucia and combined with delivers Josh Mallitz and Brandon Johnson to strike out 20 Arizona hitters while only issuing two walks. Miami is going to have to continue to put the ball in play versus the Rebels. Miami struck out 12 times versus Canisius.
