Miami football top 4 for safety Joenel Aguero with July 23 commitment
The Miami football program was named in the top four with Florida, Georgia and Ohio State for four-star safety Joenel Aguero. Aguero has official visits set up with Georgia on June 10, Ohio State on the weekend of June 17 and Miami on June 24. Aguero is still trying to schedule an official visit with Florida.
Aguero received his scholarship offer from Miami on February 8 and had an unofficial visit to Miami June 1. Defensive backs coach Jahmile Addae is leading the Miami recruitment for Aguero. Addae and Aguero had a previous relationship when the Miami DB coach was in the same position at Georgia.
Aguero is a top 45 player, top four safety and top two in Massachusetts in the 247 Sports composite rankings and On3 consensus. Miami could lose two of its top safeties following the 2022 season. Brian Balom and Avantae Williams are entering their third seasons with Miami and are eligible for the 2023 NFL Draft.
Four 247 Sports crystal balls are logged for Aguero to Georgia. All of them were posted in November 2021. The On3 prediction machine projects Georgia with a 92.3 percent chance to sign Aguero. Ohio State is second at 2.3 percent and Miami at two percent. Aguero tweeted his four finalists on Monday.
Aguero told On3 that he pushed up his commitment date from near the Early Signing Period in December to this summer because he has a sense of where he wants to go and to help build his recruiting class. Aguero is projected as a power five starter by Brian Dohn of 247 Sports and “can play in the box or in coverage.”
The Miami staff has made an impression on Aguero. Aguero told On3 that he loves Ed Reed working on the Miami staff and that the Pro Football Hall of Fame inductee is a legend. Aguero would be the highest-ranked commit to the 2023 Miami football Class. The 2023 Miami class is currently 41st in the 247 Sports composite rankings.
