Miami football gets TE Jackson Carver commit who spurned Alabama
A day ahead of a scheduled unofficial visit to Alabama, three-star tight end Jackson Carver committed to the Miami football program. Carver made his commitment to Miami via Twitter after an official visit to Coral Gables this weekend. Carver was previously projected with an 87 percent chance to commit to LSU via On3.Com.
An official visit to Iowa was also planned. Carver previously took an official visit to West Virginia last December. Carver was previously committed to Notre Dame for Lacrosse. Miami, LSU and West Virginia were the top pursuers for Carver per On3. Carver is the sixth commit and first TE to the Miami Class of 2023.
Miami will lose Will Mallory who is entering his fifth season and second as a starter with the Hurricanes in 2022. Elijah Arroyo in 2021 and Jaleel Skinner in 2022 were four-star signees and project as the future for Miami at TE. Expect Arroyo and Skinner to be worked into the Miami offense this season.
Miami also has rising third-year sophomore Dominic Mammerelli on the roster at TE. Carver is the 466th ranked player, 25th TE and second in Indiana in the Class of 2023\. The experience of spending time with the TEs on the Miami roster ultimately led to Carver committing.
The 2023 Miami football class moves up five spots to the 40th ranked 2023 Class per 247 Sports. The Hurricanes are 36th in the On3 2023 class rankings. At 6’6, 220 pounds, Carver has the ideal size for a TE. As a former ice hockey and lacrosse player, the physical part of football should be an easy adaptation for Carver.
Miami had initially offered 22 2023 TEs. Reid Mikeska and Riley Williams were the other TEs strongly considering Miami per 247 Sports. Mikeska is leaning strongly toward Clemson and Williams, Oregon. Carver is the fifth out of the six 2023 Miami commits on offense and third on the line of scrimmage.
