Miami football adds three-star tight end Reid Mikeska
The Miami football program added its second commitment of the weekend on Sunday. Three-star tight end Reid Mikeska committed on Sunday evening following the commitment from junior college wide receiver Colbie Young earlier in the day. Mikeska is also the second TE to commit to Miami in the 2023 Class.
Mikeska is the 529th ranked player nationally the 29th TE and 86th in Texas out of Bridgeland High School in Cypress, a Northwest Suburb of Houston. Miami beat out Oklahoma after Mikeska narrowed those two programs as his finalists. Mikeska took official visits to Florida, Miami and Oklahoma.
Mikeska is the second TE to commit to Miami in the last week. Three-star TE Jackson Carver committed to the Hurricanes on Tuesday. Mikeska had 24 receptions for 229 yards and four TDs last season. Miami needs to add depth at TE for 2023 with Will Mallory entering his last season of eligibility in 2022.
Four-star TE Riley Williams visited Miami this weekend. Oregon is the overwhelming favorite to receive a commitment from Williams per On3. It is highly unlikely for Miami or any college football program to sign three TEs in the same class. Miami projects to have four TEs on the roster for the 2023 season.
Elijah Arroyo and Khalil Brantley who were 2021 signees, 2022 signee Jaleel Skinner and Dominic Mammarelli who would be entering his fourth season with sophomore eligibility project to be on the 2023 Miami football roster at TE. Arroyo and Skinner are the projected successors to Mallory in 2023.
The limited 247 Sports scouting report on Mikeska states he played H-back, receiver and TE as a junior. Mammarelli is more known as a more of a blocker and would be suited to play H-back. At 6’5.5, 233 pounds, Mikeska has excellent size entering college and can likely grow more into his body.
Mikeska is the seventh commit to the 2023 Miami Class. Young is a 2022 commit set to enroll soon. The addition of Mikeska for 2023 moves Miami from the 43rd ranked class to 36th in between Wisconsin and Vanderbilt. TEs coach Stephen Field was the primary recruiter for Mikeska.
