Miami football finally lands 2023 QB with Emory Williams commitment
Three-star prospect Emory Williams is the first quarterback to commit to the Miami football program in the Class of 2023. Williams is rated by the On3.Com consensus rankings as the 870th player, 43rd QB and 131st in Florida in the class of 2023. The commitment from Williams came after his official visit to Miami this weekend.
Williams joins a Miami football program with 2021 signee Jake Garcia and 2022 signee Jacurri Brown the future at quarterback. Returning starter Tyler Van Dyke will likely leave for the NFL following the 2022 season. Williams chose Miami over Indiana, Pittsburgh and multiple Group of Five programs.
Williams might not be the only QB Miami signs in 2023. Four-star 2023 QB Jaden Rashada is visiting Miami this week and announcing his collegiate destination on Sunday. Florida is the projected leader for Rashada with Texas A&M second and Miami third according to the On3.COm prediction machine.
Williams completed 63.4 percent of his passes for 2,168 yards, 16 touchdowns, three interceptions and ran for 64 yards and four TDs as a junior for Milton, Florida High School. Miami was the only program that Williams took an official visit to. Williams took unofficial visits to Indiana, Pittsburgh and South Florida.
Miami is building recruiting momentum. The Hurricanes received commitments from tight ends Jackson Carver and Reid Mikeska in the past week. Eleven prospects are visiting Miami this week. The commitment from Williams moved Miami into the top 30 classes for 2023. Miami now has the 29th-ranked class.
All but one of the 2023 commits for Miami are on offense. Three-star linebacker Bobby Washington is the only defensive player committed to the Miami football program for 2023. Miami QB coach Frank Ponce led the recruitment of Williams according to his 247 Sports profile. Miami is also recruiting Williams’ teammate.
Wide receiver Raymond Cottrell is currently committed to Georgia but visited Miami with Williams this past weekend. Cottrell had 63 receptions for 985 yards and eight touchdowns with 311 rushing yards and another seven TDs last season. Flipping Cottrell would be huge for the 2023 Miami recruiting class.
