The Miami football program was named as a finalist with Alabama and Ohio State for four-star tight end Riley Williams. Williams will announce his collegiate destination on July 1 on CBS Sports HQ with the time to be announced. The three finalists named by Williams occurred after his official visit to Miami this past weekend.

Williams had previously named a top four that included Oregon. The Ducks were eliminated before Williams was scheduled to visit Eugene this weekend. None of the three finalists are the favorite to receive a commitment from Williams. Williams is the 66th ranked player, second TE and first in Oregon for 2023 by 247 Sports.

Miami has received commitments in the past week from TEs Jackson Carver and Reid Mikeska. It would be unusual to receive commitments from three TEs in the same class. It has been reported that the decisions from Carver and Mikeska would not preclude Williams from committing to the Miami football program.

Williams had 29 receptions for 509 yards and nine touchdowns last season at Portland Oregon Central Catholic. Miami will lose Will Mallory after the 2022 season. Mallory is projected to be the starting TE for Miami for the second straight season in 2022. Miami has already built TE depth with Carver and Mikeska.

Williams is a higher-end prospect than Carver and Mikeska who are both rated three stars. Carver is the 25th ranked TE in the Class of 2023 and Mikeska is 29th. Both could potentially move up on that list as players who started their football careers late after playing other sports. Williams has a better chance to play as a freshman.

The future for Miami at TE after Mallory leaves is currently 2021 signee Elijah Arroyo and 2022 signee Jaleel Skinner who Mario Cristobal flipped from Alabama to Miami. Having Williams with Arroyo and Skinner would provide Miami with the ability to present a lot of looks with their TEs to opposing defenses.
