The odds from WynnBet have Miami quarterback Tyler Van Dyke at +3500 to win the Heisman Trophy. That places Van Dyke 11th overall. Van Dyke is second in the ACC behind Clemson QB D.J. Uiagalelei who is fifth at +2500. Ohio State QB C.J. Stroud is the favorite to win the 2022 Heisman Trophy at odds of +220.

Defending Heisman Trophy winner, Alabama QB Bryce Young is second at +350. USC QB Caleb Williams who transferred from Oklahoma following his head coach Lincoln Riley is third at +750. After Williams, there is a gigantic dropoff. Texas running back Bijan Robinson is fourth in the WynnBet odds at +2200.

Young leads all college football returnees in 2022 with 47 touchdown passes last season. Stroud is second with 44. Stroud is second among returning QBs averaging 369.6 passing yards per game in 2021. Virginia QB Brennan Armstrong leads 2022 returnees averaging 404.5 passing yards per game in 2021.

Tyler Van Dyke averaged 293.1 passing yards per game and had 25 TDs and six interceptions in 10 games last season. In eight ACC starts, Van Dyke averaged 332.6 passing yards per game and threw 22 TDs and all six of his interceptions. Under new offensive coordinator Josh Gattis, Van Dyke might not be as prolific in 2022.

Gattis is expected to rely more on the running game than his predecessor Rhett Lashlee. Van Dyke has an opportunity to be more efficient in 2022. In 2021, Van Dyke finished 11th nationally with a 160.10 passer rating. Under Gattis in 2021, Michigan QBs were 48th with a 143.86 passer rating.

Miami will need its mostly unproven wide receiver corps to step up into bigger roles and make big plays in 2022 for Van Dyke to make a Heisman Trophy run. Miami games at Texas A&M on September 17 and Clemson on November 19 will be critical for Van Dyke to have any hope for an outside shot at winning the Heisman Trophy.

Miami is expected to play a more conservative offense in 2022 and not throw the ball downfield as much as they did in 2021. Big plays and highlights are what the Heisman Trophy voters see. If Miami has a more successful season than they had in 2021 and Van Dyke continues to shine, the Heisman Trophy talk should blossom.
