Miami basketball hosting Rutgers in ACC-Big 10 Challenge
The Miami basketball program will host 2022 NCAA Tournament program Rutgers in the ACC/Big 10 Challenge on November 30 at the Watsco Center. This will be the third time Miami will play Rutgers in the ACC/Big 10 Challenge. The Hurricanes and Scarlet Knights split their two ACC/Big 10 Challenge meetings.
Miami lost the last meeting to Rutgers 57-54 in the 2018 ACC/Big 10 Challenge at the Watsco Center. The Hurricanes lead the all-time series with Rutgers 10-6. Miami is 6-1 all-time versus Rutgers at home. Game time and television broadcast information will be announced for the ACC/Big 10 Challenge at a later date.
Rutgers finished 18-14 in 2021-22 and reached its second consecutive NCAA Tournament. Notre Dame eliminated Rutgers 89-87 in double overtime in the First Four in Dayton. Rutgers advanced to the second round of the 2021 NCAA Tournament. The 2021 NCAA Tournament berth was the first for Rutgers since 1991.
Rutgers enters the 2022-23 season needing more consistency. The Scarlet Knights had five wins over opponents ranked in the top 20. Miami and Rutgers are playing in the ACC/Big 10 Challenge for the third time in the last seven years. Miami defeated Rutgers 73-61 in the 2016 ACC/Big 10 Challenge.
The Miami basketball team is 9-6 all-time in the ACC/Big 10 Challenge. Miami is 5-2 at home in the challenge and 8-3 under head coach Jim Larranaga. Miami has thrived in the challenge over the last eight seasons with a 7-1 record. That is the best record in the challenge over the last eight seasons.
Miami is coming off its most successful NCAA Tournament run in program history. The Hurricanes advanced to the Midwest Regional Final and lost to the eventual NCAA Tournament champion Kansas. That was the first time Miami reached the regional championship game. Miami lost three starters off the 2021-22 team.
The Hurricanes return starters Jordan Miller and Isaiah Wong. Miami added highly sought-after transfers, post Norchad Omier who was the Sun Belt Player of the Year at Arkansas State and guard Nijel Pack from Kansas State. Pack earned first-team All-Big XII with the Wildcats. Miami is one of five games on November 30.
